A Future-Ready Commitment to Phase Out PFAS-Containing Foam Extinguishers by Mid-2026

At Firechief®, we exist to make the world a safer place, and that responsibility extends beyond the fires we help to fight. It includes the environmental legacy of the products we manufacture and the long-term impact on health, ecosystems, and communities.

For decades, AFFF (aqueous film-forming foam) has been a trusted component in foam fire extinguishers, known for its high performance and versatility. However, as awareness grows around the environmental and health concerns associated with PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), global regulations are tightening, and so are industry expectations.

While PFAS-containing foam extinguishers currently remain fully compliant in the UK, we anticipate that this will change. We already know that in the EU, portable extinguishers containing PFAS will be banned from sale from 23 October 2026, and we believe that UK regulations are likely to follow a similar path.

In line with our values, and ahead of an upcoming legislative deadline, Firechief® will not be selling any 2026-dated AFFF foam extinguishers. Once our current stock is sold, we will no longer offer PFAS-containing foam extinguishers.

What does this mean for our customers?

  • We will continue to supply the PFAS-containing extinguishers we currently hold in stock. Once our current stock has sold through, we will no longer supply PFAS-containing foam fire extinguishers. This is anticipated to happen by mid-2026.
  • Our PureSafe™ PFAS-free foam and water-mist extinguishers are fully available, and we’re committed to expanding the PureSafe™ range. A key focus is fluorine-free wheeled extinguishers, as there is currently no known solution available. We are working hard to change that as soon as possible.
  • We will support customers through this transition, including advice on compliance, product alternatives, and safe disposal.

We believe that innovation should be matched by integrity. While some in the industry have used evolving regulations to create confusion, our position is simple: we will continue to serve customers with clear, accurate guidance and trusted products that meet, or exceed, regulatory requirements.

This is not just about compliance. It’s about leadership. We’re committed to shaping a safer, more sustainable industry and delivering fire protection you can trust in every way.
