An introduction to the burning issues surrounding
Lithium-ion battery fires

This CPD accredited presentation covers the risks, causes and effects of Lithium-ion (LiB) battery fires. These fires are a growing problem, as a huge variety of devices and products now use Lithium-ion battery products.

There are particular concerns around e-scooters and e-bikes with fires from these personal modes of transport being more regularly covered in the mainstream media, while other questions centre around the safety of charging electric vehicles in underground car parks and the safe recycling of Lithium-ion batteries.

You should do this course if your organisation:

  • Uses laptops, mobile phones, power tools or forklift trucks.
  • Allows employees to use and charge their personal LiB powered devices on site
  • Stores new Lithium-ion battery powered devices or new Li-ion batteries
  • Stores or recycles used/damaged Lithium-ion battery powered devices or Li-ion batteries
  • Has employees bringing and charging e-bikes or e-scooters on site
  • Has electric vehicles being parked or charged on site
  • Has battery energy storage systems
  • Sells or repairs Lithium-ion battery powered products

Our 45-minute CPD accredited introductory course will give you the information you need to live and work safely with Lithium-ion battery powered devices and electric vehicles.

Matt Humby

Senior Technical Sales Consultant

Matt has more than 25 years' experience in the fire industry and has worked with leading extinguisher manufacturers to help them gain Full EN3 approval, and Fire Ratings under EN3 for their products, working in conjunction with LPCB and Lloyds Register. He has run his own fire safety business providing all types of fire and safety products to the UK and Europe. He now provides advice and solutions to help mitigate the fire risk with fire safety products for both commercial and residential building projects and has a particular interest in the risks, causes and effects of Lithium Battery fires.

On this course you will:

  • Learn about the magnitude of the risk which Lithium-ion battery fires pose.

  • See some examples of Lithium-ion battery fires.

  • Gain an understanding of why LiB fires happen.

  • Understand how to manage devices containing Lithium-ion batteries to help mitigate the fire risk.

Is our Reliance on Lithium-ion Batteries Safe or Sustainable? - Intermediate Level Two CPD accredited.

This 45 minute CPD accredited course covers the fire risks of Li-ion batteries in more detail and includes an 8 step action plan to help mitigate and manage them.

The use of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries has become increasingly prevalent in many aspects of modern life, such as in portable electronics, electric vehicles, and renewable energy storage. While Li-ion batteries have many advantages, including high energy density, long cycle life, and fast charging capabilities, their safety and sustainability depend on how they are manufactured, used, and disposed of.

There has been a steady rise in Lithium-ion battery (LiB) fires as the number of devices containing them increases. LiB fires have unique attributes and are not like other types of fire, therefore education and awareness are key; as is assessing the fire risk they present to your organisation, having an action plan in place to mitigate the risk and being able to manage the fire event should the worst happen.

This course will cover why Lithium-ion battery fires happen and how to implement a Battery Safe Action Plan to help manage and mitigate your particular LiB fire risks.

The webinar will be of particular interest to Health & Safety professionals, Buildings & Facilities Managers and Operations Managers and others responsible for fire safety in all sectors including OEM, manufacturing, warehousing & storage, transport, construction, retail and public sector organisations.

Understanding Standard BS EN50615:
Ensuring Kitchen Stove Guard Compliance

This CPD accredited webinar has been created as a guide for architects, specifiers, fire engineers and M&E consultants.

Standard BS EN50615 ensures the quality and safety of cooker safety products. The EU first published the EN50615 standard for Kitchen Stove Guards in 2015, with the aim of significantly decreasing the amount of kitchen and house fires throughout Europe.

During this session you will learn about Standard BS EN50615 and how it ensures Kitchen Stove Guard compliance. You will also gain an understanding of how Kitchen Stove Guards can assist in achieving compliant escape routes in small or high-rise dwellings, particularly in open-plan living spaces with integrated kitchen areas, thereby maximising the usable space in building design while enhancing safety.

To understand Kitchen Stove Guard systems, it is key to understand the standard that the product meets, which is BS EN50615, and how this can form an objective to fire consultants and architects in specifying such systems within design and in reference to BS 9999,  BS 9991 and Category B devices.

This webinar will be of particular interest to Architects, Specifiers, Fire Engineers, M&E Consultants.  Delegates will earn 1 hour of CPD points for their attendance.
