In line with current Government advice regarding ‘social distancing’ and the management of the Covid 19 virus, it looks as though many people are likely to be working from home at least for the immediate future. With that in mind, we want to ensure you are keeping yourselves fire safe at home.

Whether you think there might be a higher risk or fires at home due to the use of more electronics or you finally have some time to get your home fire safety measures updated, Firechief have all the products to keep you safe in your home.

Working from home for your employer

If you find yourself working for your employer at home for the time being, it is important to remember that they are responsible for your fire safety. Employers have a duty of care to all employees, according to ACAS, an employer is responsible for carrying out a risk assessment to check whether the employee’s home workplace is suitable for the tasks they will be carrying out and is also is responsible for the equipment it supplies to the employee for homeworking.

Self-Employed – Working from Home

If you are self-employed and working from home, the duty of care is placed on you. Here are some top safety products that we recommend for home working:

  • Firechief ‘easy-use’ 1kg powder extinguisher or Firechief 600 Powder Extinguisher
  • Firechief Flamebuddy or Firechief Flamebuster – these are aerosol extinguishers, they are easy to use and come in much smaller sizes. They can tackle most fires.
  • Fire Blanket
  • First Aid Kit

If you wanted to get all of the above, take a look at the Firechief Home & Travel Safety Pack, this includes a 1kg Powder Fire Extinguisher, 1x1m Fire blanket and a first aid kit.

Fire Safety – Electronics

A further consideration given that the majority of those working from home will be using both laptops and mobile phones, is the importance of them being provided with a Firechief Lith-Ex Extinguisher. This is the world’s first Fire Extinguisher to effectively tackle Lithium ion battery fires in devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, toys, power tools and electric scooters and is therefore invaluable.

Time to sort out Home Fire Safety

If you finally have some spare time to ensure your home is safe in the event of a fire breaking out, it is important to take every room in the house into consideration because there are multiple fire risks in the home.

Most common home fires:

  • Kitchen fires from unattended cooking
  • Overheating electronic and electrical appliances
  • Open fires and chimneys
  • Faulty electrical wiring or overloaded electrical systems
  • Candles and other open flames
  • Smoking, fire matches and lighters, flammable liquids and aerosols, and barbecues.
